You may grind and brew your coffee immediately after roasting. However, some experts believe that you should wait 12 hours before grinding and brewing your freshly roasted beans. If you must grind in advance, keep the ground coffee in an airtight container and brew it within a couple days.

My coffee tastes too weak. What did I do wrong?

Chances are you've made one of these three common mistakes:

  • You skimped on the coffee (The Specialty Coffee Association of America Recommends that you use two heaping tablespoons of ground coffee for every six ounces of fresh water.)
  • The coffee is ground too coarsely.
  • The coffee was not given enough brewing time. This is common with a plunger pot when people fail to wait at least four minutes.

My coffee tastes too strong. What did I do wrong?

Chances are you've made one of these three common mistakes:

  • You used too much coffee (use two heaping tablespoons of ground coffee to every six ounces of fresh water.)
  • The coffee is ground too finely.
  • The coffee sat on the burner or in the thermos too long after brewing.

How should I store unroasted beans?

Unroasted beans are naturally protected. They need no special care. Keep them dry and away from extreme temperatures. A cupboard or pantry shelf is fine. Do not store them in the refrigerator or freezer.

Why is there no smoke when I roast coffee
in my Zach & Dani's gourmet coffee roaster?

Our roaster contains a patented catalytic exhaust system that eliminates the smoke and leaves only the fresh aroma of roasted coffee. It is completely safe and poses no fire hazard.

How much coffee can I make with each roasting?

How much you can brew per roasting depends on how strong you like your coffee. We have found the average yield per roasting to be around 2-3 pots or 20 cups. Daily coffee drinkers find themselves roasting about every 3 to 4 days.

Can I "program" my Zach & Dani's roaster to
remember my preferred roasting settings?

Zach & Dani's "Auto Recall" feature will automatically set the roast to your last settings and automatically repeat the roasting cycle until your reset your roaster.

What's the easiest way to clean my roaster?

To clean, simply dispose of the chaff from the chaff catcher and place the roasting chamber, auger and chaff catcher in your dishwasher. They are completely dishwasher safe. Wash them under a normal cycle and you'll get many years of service from your coffee roaster.

To remove heavy oil buildups that occurs after dozens of roasts, use an oven cleaner such as Easy Off.

What is the rotating "screw type" device inside of the roasting chamber for?

That is Zach & Dani's coffee auger. It actually continually mixes the beans within the roasting chamber to keep them at an even temperature. This way you are assured of perfectly consistent coffee, every time you roast.
