How Long Should You Roast Your Beans?

How long you roast your coffee beans is based on your own personal flavor preferences. Most people simply roast their coffee beans until they're brown. But you can easily control the flavor by adjusting the roasting time on the home coffee roaster and by keeping an eye on the color of the beans.

For example, if you like a strong French Roast or a bold espresso flavor, you'll want to roast your beans until they reach a deep dark, almost black color. In contrast, if you like your coffee on the lighter side, you'll want to roast the beans until they're a light golden brown.

After a few roasts, you'll discover the color that yields the most delicious flavor for you. But a basic guideline to follow is the longer and darker you roast your coffee beans in the home coffee roaster, the stronger their flavor. It's really that simple…
